I don't remember Carter really. I don't doubt he was in the lower rank of presidential performance. And Reagan being a Californian introduced the concept of California republicans to the nation I guess (basically, pro business but socially laissez-faire, with an emphasis on small govt).

I was out of the country for Bush I. Clinton was a great president and will be remembered as one of the most popular presidents, similar to Reagan I believe. We'll have to wait and see how history judges Clinton. My guess is, well.

But Bush II, is a complete unmitigated disaster. In foreign affairs, in lives lost executing his childish escapades, in money spent (huge surplus to huge deficits) for nothing, in everything. Bush really is a disgrace. His background is nothing like most presidents (Reagan, Clinton, Bush I, even Carter) who by and large were self made men. Bush II is a whiney frat boy who never worked for anything in his life. Even his own party is fed up with him now. Iraq was a huge mistake and probably will go down as the US's equivalent of the Russian afganistan adventure. And we all know what Afganistan eroded into- theres the future of Iraq. Women were much better off with Saddam Hussein, thats for sure.

My hope is that the republicans get away from these dangerous social values - neocons and get back to the small government, fiscally responsible agenda that they used to have.
