You seemed to have missed the point. Libby's lying obstructed the ability of Fitz -- appointed by Ashcroft on the recommendation of a GOP Senator -- to determine whether a crime was committed. That is why Fitz is going to throw the book at him, making a plea bargain unlikely.

As far as I remember Clinton was never convicted of any crime except lying under oath.
