''Vice President Cheney said Iraq was the heart of "the geographic base of the terrorists who have had us under assault now for many years, but most especially on 9/11." '''

The heart of the geographic base of terrorists that had us under assault was really Saudi Arabia. But let's not let facts get in the way of this administration...

No disagreement there.. Saudi Arabia is the heart of Wahabist/Salafist/Takfirist religios ideology...

But I also am not stupid enough to cut off my economic nose to spite my face...

You don't bring down the largest oil producer in the world without first having a back up producer coming on line.. And that would be Iraq (one of these days...).

The Saudi knows this.. They see the economic competition coming soon in the oil markets. They know the Iraqi's likely have more oil reserves than they do..

But to deal with the Saudis, first you have to create a Arab state powerful enough, as well as progressively minded enough, to choose to confront and deal with them.

If only to force their society to moderate..

If people want to fight Saudi Arabia and Islamic Militancy, the greatest way of doing this is creating a state where the people own the means of production and natural resources (even if via a proxy government or corporate share structure)..

There's a reason our constitution says "We the People", and not "We the Power Elite"...
