That happened to me one time when I shorted a stock. I left the cert on the porch and a moose ate it during the night. Naturally my broker was skeptical when I could not produce it. The best I could do was show him some small chocolate ovals with some bits of paper in them. It was not conclusive but he let me short it anyway.

Moose are long.
