RE: "Why should there be something wrong with record profits for XOM?"

1. XOM didn't create the natural resource component they sell. XOM should be taxed for taking from our Earth.

2. These are not "record" profits, but "excessive" profits that were wrongly gained on the backs of others.

3. Their excessive profits certainly invalidates prior arguments to not create a tax on XOM.

XOM needs to be taxed for excessive profits as well as penalized for price gouging.

PS Some businessmen in Saudia Arabia have this habit of writing only "Dear Sir" when contacting US businesses - those (that do that) receive replies that say "Dear Madam" : )

There are only 5 oil producers.....can anyone else get into the game?

If not, please refrain from the nonsense of the "free market." Free market can be used in describing a company making widgets, not 1 of 5 oil producers who have a lock on the market.
