Joe Wilson, if I remember correctly:

1. Niger has two mines controlled by 5 companies. I think the copmanies are all French but I could be wrong. At any rate, the French oversee their uranium mines. The Niger uranium is very expensive and the ore can be bought elsewhere for much less.

2. The CIA question, prompted by Cheney's questions to the CIA, was to investigate the supposed purchase or attempt to purchase 500 tons of ore by Saddam.

3. 500 tons is 40% above the normal capacity of the mines so it would require the purchase of additional materials such as barrels and the hiring of additional employees.

4. He went pro bono and not as a CIA person since he wasn't a spy and was already well known in the area.

That's all I watched but it's on CSpan today.
