Rink, Re: So it's not clear what is used to build this solution.>

Several pretty pictures in many colors with a little more information.

The Fabric7 architecture, for the first time, couples mainframe-inspired channelized I/O with industry-standard
computing. Each server is provided with up to 64 virtual I/O interfaces that can be configured as either Ethernet or Fibre Channel. Each interface can be configured with 100Mbps to 10Gbps of I/O bandwidth. The number of interfaces and the amount of bandwidth can be dynamically increased or decreased while the server and its applications are running. Network utilization is dramatically improved, thereby reducing the number of dedicated Ethernet and Fibre Channel interfaces as well as switches required to provide the connectivity are reduced.

Fabric7’s servers are built on a low-latency server interconnect. Communications between servers within a single chassis occur with less than five microseconds of latency. Transfers between servers located in different chassis in the datacenter introduce less than 20 microseconds of latency. Communications between datacenters separated by up to 100 miles can be implemented by directly driving dark fiber from the servers without adding any additional latency from external switches.

Other very nice PDFs for the interested.
