It never made any sense to maintain Iraq as a single country. Eventually is will split up. It would have been easier to do it earlier but that opportunity is now passed with the passing of the Constitution. Iraq will divide and it's most likely that it will divide through civil war. The Shia could decide to cleanse Iraq of Sunnis.

That's entirely possible. But then again.. I don't think any party WITHIN Iraq having a vested interest in seeing the country thrust into a civil war that might slip out of their control. And I certainly would rather be guilty of having tried to create positive change here, and failing.. than being accused of having cut and run and permitted Iraq to plunge into utter chaos..

It's about power and money, like anything else in this world.. The trick is how we create a system of checks and balances that prevent any one group from being able to dominate the others.

That's what our system is meant to do.. So many checks and balances that no one power is able to dominate the others for any length of time (and certainly not without major compromises).

I mean.. look what's happening right now... Harry Reid, a Senator of the minority party has just locked up the US Senate in a closed door session to "get to the truth" of the Iraq related intelligence...

Hell, his own FELLOW Democratic Senators, WHO WERE IN CHARGE OF THE SENATE when they GRANTED Bush the authorization to use force against Iraq in October, 2002, are not investigating THEIR OWN DECISIONS.. They controlled the Senate Intelligence Committee.. They controlled the Foreign Relations Committee.. They controlled the Senate Intelligence Oversight Committee and received the same briefings the President did..

And they were constantly being briefed by a CIA director that was appointed by the Clinton Administration...

Yet.. they accuse Bush of DELIBERATE LYING AND MANIPULATING??

I find this laughable.. But still, its a check and balance on the system that prevents any majority from dominating the minority..
