Bush is speaking about the Avian Flu right now. While he says there is no pandemic flu in the USA currently his actions say otherwise. A type of Avian Flu has been discovered in Canada in geese. I think the likelihood of an outbreak that comes via our transportation system is almost a lock. Minus the infrastructure damage this is the equivalent of a Katrina hitting every major metropolitan area in our country. The economic damage could cause a global depression and the loss of life could be amazing. I don't want to be a fear monger but this could be the most serious thing to touch the lives of people since WWII. If the mortality rate ends up being the 50% number it has been so far the loss of life will dwarf the total of all 20th century wars (assuming it becomes a global event).
