"blame the death and destruction of indigenous peoples" No to a large extent you can blame that on the US military and Government circa 1870. But think about it. It was religious conservatives (the Inquisition) who tried to lock Galileo up for saying the earth rotated around the sun. Conservatism resists change by it's very nature. Conservatives argue against the theory of evolution because they are ignorant and often superstitious. Conservatives believe in God rather than understand that Man needs to construct complex belief systems to explain what can't be explained. Every civilization including our present one has had a "God belief” system of some kind. I think that makes the existence of God very unlikey.
