re: Ultimately, though, with countries like Iran operating unfettered, we don't stand much of a chance of bringing peace to the Middle East. They act to subvert any peace process by instigating terrorism at every opportunity.

Hell, we've created the most active terrorist zone that has ever existed on the planet, probably by orders of magnitude... Iraq. Iraq is the Super Bowl of terrorism, Palestine is Beverly Hills by comparison.

re: Our best chance is to make a graceful withdrawal, wash our hands of the middle east, wean ourselves off of oil, and gradually reduce our aid package to Israel. It'd be nice if within 20 years, we would have zero involvement with the Middle East, politically or economically.

I agree. Oil is the only reason we are there, and using 25% of the worlds oil is the only reason it's important.

With a war for conservation, we have a huge opportunity to rid ourselves of a political albatross, and pump many $Billions into the economy. It is probably the most positive thing we could do for this country.
