Isn't the real question whether the CIA believes the revealing of her name did damage to its work? I think the answer to this from the agency (to the extent it can or would comment) and certainly from other intelligence officers is...yes.

No one will know how much damage because of the very nature of her work and the "damage control" needed to be done quietly and below the radar.

Whether the naming of Ms. Plame and (maybe even more damaging) Mr. Novak's printing of the front company she supposedly worked for, are technical violations of the law...they are terrible acts. Period.

We still have reports that Joe introduced her at cocktail parties as "my wife the CIA agent" going back a couple of years. Maybe there WAS no knowledge that she was covert, and maybe even the opposite was firmly believed by those involved in noting that she, not the vice president, had recommended Joe for the job.

Or maybe this what I've just noted should be presumed false, and all the speculation that she was covert and known to be so, should be believed, though we know not either way. Ya think? Yeah, ya do, I know.

But is a sad road you follow.
