<<My thinking is us "old farts" may have built up over our lifetimes some immunity to various flu viruses just through exposure and/or previous vaccines. jdn>>

We old farts grew up outside, getting dirty, bloody and exposed to a lot of infections. Todays kids live inside and aren't exposed. Immune system, use it or lose it.

Remember the old flu shots that took 2 shots and hurt like hell?

not just 'old farts'. people who grew up in "less developed" countries also tend to have a higher level of resistance. Me, I grew up in India. Till now I have never had to take a flu shot. If I get the flu, I just sleep it off with extra blankets - 2 days later I'm OK.
