No, it didn't. The US did tilt to Iraq when it appeared that Iran might win. That is similar to (but much less substantial than) FDR's aid to the USSR when it was fighting Nazi Germany. Would you characterize FDR's aid to the USSR as the Democrats embracing Soviet Communism? I wouldn't.

US policy has always identified the primary threat and worked against it, even to the extent of cooperating with forces hostile to us - like Saddam and Stalin.
