You're much better than the current set of speech writers.

Tonight, I am announcing an immediate reduction of . ., . . . U. S. troops currently stationed in Iraq. Applause, applause, standing applause, applause, standing foot-stomping applause.

Delete "immediate", it's too specific. Iraq can't completely blow up before the 2006 US elections. Bush needs room to manuever and I think he's still going to try to preserve his "legacy". I'm not convinced that Bush has it in him to sacrifice himself for the good of the party.

P.S. Did Bill ever let on to what rule of his you violated?

"The immediate goal will be the November congressional elections. That will be accomplished with a still significant military presence and a nice healthy reduction of maybe 50,000 troops. Of course, funds will be available for good behavior from the Iraqis."

I see logic in your scenario, but it assumes the Iraqis will be able to provide security in the face of a stiffening and ever more violent and sophisticated insurgent opposition.

Since Iraqization directly mirrors "Vietnamization", it would be enlightening to review statements, expectations and projections from that time.

As with the entire war, despite what the Bushies plan and do, the insurgents and jihaddis will have their say. Let's hope this one doesn't end with helicopters bugging out from the Green Zone rooftops, but I'm for any end that gets us out of there.
