>>Played another VFW tournament last Sat...same $65 buy in

What is VFW tournament?

The only tournament I played so far was few months ago in Las Vegas (can't think of casino name, I was all over the place lol - next to GMG, but not Exalibur - the other side, tournament is once per day) it was 65$ buy in, 60 players, 6 tables with 10 players. There was option to buy_in again in first hour. So 35 new players come in that extended hour, totaled 95 players.

It was my first tournament ever and my first time playing with someone else than friends. And I played poker at the table less than 25 times in my life so far.

So I was newbie with a lack of knowledge. I played one of the first hands and lost almost half of the chips.

Anyway, things turned better (once everyone waited on me and I didn't even know lol) I played 4 hours and ended 10th. Blinds were so big at that time, that I was forced to go all in with moderate hand, had better than oponent but he got lucky. If I would win that hand I would be in the money.

Payout was for only first 5 players, first got over 2000$, fifth around 500.

It was fun and I will play again when I will visit Las Vegas again.

Now I'm playing only virtual money online and getting ready to start playing for real money - pennies for start lol

Mario

Ps, where are you guys playing? Which online poker places you are using? Which tournament's are the best...?

"I've discovered that the more I play on a serious level the more conservative I've become"

There is absolutely no doubt. Good hands win more than bad hands! And BEST beginning hands win more than insisting on seeing the fold because you have two cards!

I talked to a guy the other day who deals and plays as well. He thought that great hands like pocket aces were bad because they could lose to flushes and straights. I did not tell him how foolish he was. I've heard the same nonsense from people in blackjack who THINK that splitting aces just makes it worse. They don't understand the concept.

Pocket aces won't always win. Many times one must fold them. But they are the best way to start!

I would love to know how it goes for you. For me it is a retirement concept. I had wanted to make a living through gambling probably 45 years ago. But the very concept is the ultimate in loneliness. I remember reading that very concept in a poker book in the sixties. It is long gone and forgotten--but the author commented that a poker hand was the ultimate in loneliness--and he had a picture of a man alone in a boat. Society tells us we are bad and that we are not supposed to get ahead so easily. It is hard to challenge the ocean when you are a mouse in a boat. But sc--w them!
