I remember it as a nice, rural agricultural community by the sea that grew fantastic melons and other stuff. I haven't been there since the mid '90's though.

Just drove down to Cambria, equidistant from LA and SF. Passed through Salinas. Were there really people that commuted to SJ from there. That's an awfully far way. Back in 2000, 101 had only 2 lanes in Gilroy. That caused a bottleneck everday almost all day.

Cambria is nice, but nothing to do unless you're into selling fudge or other touristy things. Lots of second/retirement homes. Excellent windsurfing a few miles up the road at Point Piedras Blancas, within eye-shot of Hearst Castle.
