But neither the left or the right has succeeded in dragging the center out to their wing and keeping it their for more than s a few years. Ideological governments in democracies don't last. Unfortunately, dressing up a zealous cause can get you past the 50% post in an election or two, which is all that most politicians care about. So we veer to the right, then back to the center, then maybe to the left, then back to the center, and so on. The long-term result is disgust with politics and politicians who will do or say anything to get elected, but never earn our lasting trust once in power.
