The problem for Canadians is that you did trust us, and now the US won't repay the $5 billion. I warned Marcos that it was a bad idea for Canada to be forking over the money. Better either to negotiate a new 5-year lumber agreement, or to halt lumber exports to the US during the appeal. The more I find out about NAFTA, I can't understand why Canada ever ratified it. NAFTA has a clause that obligates Canada to seel a certain percentage of its energy production to the US. Better for you guys to just sell the stuff to the highest bidder on the spot market, I should think. Oh well.
