For me, it's a question of decorum rather than offense. I use that lingo plenty in private but not on SI, since it's in all our interest to keep this a cleaner place than the Yahooligan zoo.

Also, gratuitous name-calling aimed at Bush or Hillary or whoever is out of place on this thread. I am interested when polls show changes in political perceptions, and dissent from a politician's ostensible base is also interesting. That tells us something about the political landscape out there. "Bush sucks!" doesn't.

Cheerleading and name-calling are opposite sides of the same coin. They don't teach you anything new except the emotional fervor of the poster. Periodically I go down the list of banned posters here and see what they are posting elsewhere. Almost invariably, I find the same kind of playground trash-talk abuse that got them banned here in the first place.

We can do just fine without the crap-slinging contests.
