a total of 28,000 cars were burned across the country this year -- even before the latest outbreak. That's something like 100 per day - I wonder if this is really probable. I was in Paris a few years back when there was one of these riots and did see some cars overturned and set fire, also a number of businesses were looted and set on fire. It was a fine mess.

According to the police intelligence service, a total of 28,000 cars were burned across the country this year -- even before the latest outbreak. This number seemed amazingly high, but in checking google.fr, I find that for years now, there have been thousands of burned cars per year - 8,000 in 1998, 15,000 in 2001, etc. So I guess the figure, surprising as it is may be accurate.
