Isn't the issue that no one knows the extent of the possible naked short situation because the large brokers and the clearing houses won't allow a light to be shined on the subject?

Exactly.

Solve it all by making each short sale have to be identified as such on the tape.

you and I will never know the extent of the "problem". isn't the threshold list a pretty darn indication though? Like 200-300 stocks with over .05% and 10,000 shares seems pretty low to me, agree? Or do you think there are faults with it? This question goes for you too Ruff
