And that's the nub of it.....
"encroaching" into the territory of many diverse intelligence agencies

If most of the free world intel was so wrong about WMD, or at least to hear the Media tell the story....then what are we to believe?

Who in the CIA sent Joe Wilson to see whoever he saw in Africa (certainly no one at the top), and where is his report? Did he really not give one? Who paid his expenses for the trip?

Who is doing the leaking in these agencies?

When we went into Iraq, most of the Media and most of the Left were really exercised about chemicals, and possible nuclear materials that were there, and not guarded..... WHAT nuclear materials and/or chemical materials were these folks talking about....Were these people just making a media grab? Or were they lying?

And yes, hopefully we triple or better the size of our Spec Ops forces...

Suffice it to say that we need to double, if not triple, the size of our SpecOps forces and make them the primary weapon by which this war against terror is fought.

Hawk,
I was at Ft Bragg 2 weeks ago.

Patriots are out there. SF recruiting has increased again. Much of the increase is coming from folks in the service who witnessed SF in combat action.

The graduation rate has also increased. This is attributed to a keener initial selection process rather than a lowering of standards. In fact, I was told the training standards have just been increased in several key areas.

This is not, however, going to be reflected in more SF units. All of the current increase is going to fill vacant slots on current A teams.

I agree we need more teams. The current deployment rate is 7 months in combat and 7 months out. Out does not necessarily mean at home. For many it means a tour in Asia, South America, Africa, or elsewhere before going back into combat.

I don't know how we increase A team numbers...I'm not sure it is possible at this time without a broad increase in the number of troops overall or a lowering of standards. The latter will be self defeating. The experienced guys will retire rather than go on an SF counter-terror combat OP with a less than highly trained replacement on the team.

I believe the USMC unit just assigned to SOCOM is an attempt to create a force that can assume a few A team responsibilities...most likely "direct action" missions.
