Unfortunate for them. The West isn't going to be endeared by suicide bombs or by rioting. It will only make prejudice grow. Hell, I always held the belief that Muslims were exotic and interesting people living in incredibly historically significant lands. I always had more than a passing interest and desire to visit with them and find out more about them. That was prior to 9/11. Now, I wish I didn't know anything about them and that they'd all go back to where they came from and stop trying to drag down civilization. All I can say is that I do not want to be characterized by the Americans in our jails; by the Americans who commit crimes overseas; by Americans who are the lowest denominator in our society. I am sure the Muslims feel the same way. In France, Muslims have been second class citizens for decades. Oh it was cool if they sold their cous cous in Paris's Left Bank so long as they knew their place in French society. On the tube this week, there was a young Algerian Muslim who lives in one of the Parisienne suburbs under attack. He is a professional who could afford to live in Paris but when he looked for a place to rent, no one would rent to him. Assuming this is true, its surprising......its the 21st century. I thought we had gotten beyond that crap. Apparently, not in France. And Muslims there are saying we aren't taking it anymore just like blacks did in this country in the 1960s. There are bad Muslims....everywhere......no question......but if that's all you allow yourself to see, then you are fueling the problem. Those of us who know better have to be smarter; otherwise we are screwed. ted
