Brokerage accounts are about to start hurting too imo unless they get those account interest rates up.

I think there's tons of them out there that seldom trade the money due to small balances, high fees, or risk aversion.

I'd like to see Congress enact some remedial legislation to allow combining small balance retirement accounts. Surprised the industry hasn't thought of this. I suspect there are a lot of these accounts since the bubble days. Haven't thought this through much though.

Russ, regarding Treasury Direct,

I can't seem to figure out how to open a new style Treasury Direct account as a joint account with my wife. Is that just not offered?

We have a legacy account, but I would like to have access to the 4 week bills and I can't find the page to apply as a joint account.

Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction.
