Ken Lay was Bush-Cheney's #1 benefactor and gave 75% of his money over the years to Republican causes. He did lobby democrats too, and gave $250,000 to Lieberman because he was on the energy committee and Enron wanted more deregulation, but he gave about 1.5 million to Bush over the years. I think he gave CLinton $2000. Lay and Clinton were not close and Lay actively fought against Gore's campaign.

Furthermore, Enron and Ken Lay were directing involved in Bush's presdiential campaign and broke all kinds of finance laws in the process. Bushies were caught having been flying free on Enron jets for years and had to reimburse Enron $2000 per flight (still a great bargain). Enron also hird rightwing religious organized Ralph Reed for Bush as a "energy consultant" and paid him $150,000. That is totally illegal but no one ever investigated it. Ken Lay was reportedly Bush's #1 choice for Secretary Of The Treasury. On the Enron tapes the traders can be heard gloating about how much money they're going to be able to steal with Bush-Cheney in power and Lay in the cabinet. See the movie "Enron" for a listen.
