The Democrat candidate was, in his youth, a Christian missionary to Honduras. I don't know what precisely his sect was but have to assume some kind of Protestant.

He's personally morally opposed to the death penalty and has, in the past, defended murderers, including appeals. Parenthetically, defending murderers is the toughest job in the world, in part because it just goes on and on. I think it's tougher than being a cop or a soldier or a fireman, although not personally dangerous. It demands more of a person's soul, day after day after day.

And he's been interviewed on the issue, if he's opposed to the death penalty what about Hitler, what about Idi Amin?

Here's the relevant clips, collected by factcheck.org. I must say, after listening to Kaine speak, I feel a lot better about voting for him. Kilgore has always rubbed me the wrong way anyway.
