The tragedy is that a movement that dared to call itself a "women's" movement, failed to take in to account the thing most women value above all else- children, their production and care. I can speak only for myself. It really never occurred to me that there would be many women who didn't want to be equal to men. I remember when I found out that I, as a married woman, couldn't legally own property in my own name. It's hard to imagine you accepting that with good grace any more than I did.Since so many women choose to have children, despite the difficulties imposed on them now As for having children, no one is stopping anyone from doing so. No one. It's one of the choices. Most women who want to actively rear their kids will have to make some compromises in the career arena, for sure. But would they be better off with no career arena with which to compromise. It's hard for me to imagine that. Having children isn't any more difficult than it use to be, all thing being equal. Woman making the choice to take on too much is more at fault than the women's movement. The only difficulty that I can think of directly attributable to the women's movement is the cost of close-in housing. PS and FWIW, around twenty percent of women past their child bearing years are childless and the numbers are going up. The numbers among younger women are much higher although they still have time so who knows what the final count will be.
