Maybe just hit the clear button at the same time you hit one of the colored keys which puts you into 12 payments per year.

Every few years my HP's go cattywhompas so I need to get new ones.

my hp calculator appears to have caught the flu...

When mine started screwing up like that, it was because of low batteries. The manual doesn't say squat about that being a symptom.
