Oh, I predict this stuff in France will blow over.

To some extent it's been a slow train coming in several respects. For example, this "out of sight, out of mind" attitude about the housing projects is coming home to roost. It's not mainly a latent "racism" that some people talk about (the British are probably more racist than the French to be honest), but just bad management. Not putting enough police effort into the housing projects and letting crime flourish there, as long as it doesn't bother too many other people, not treating this nonsense of setting cars on fire as a serious crime many years ago, and not putting enough effort into improving education in these housing projects. These are difficult problems, but if they are not addressed, you get the results we see today.
