Hi John,

THE MARKET and only the market can do this the best.

Oil is simply the cheapest form currently,it displaced coal, which displaced trees for forms of heating houses.

That neither depleted the trees or coal deposits. It simply was the cleanest and least expensive.

The world is a float in oil.It simply is more expensive to get at some locations.

The US, under the guise of environmentalism has made most sovereign deposits "Off Limits" by law.

The unmentioned underlying theme is to use others oil first, while it is cheap and save ours for the last uses -if alternatives don't come to appear(which are appearing).

You cannot pass laws that will keep up with auto manufacturers.

As an example in January GM will have a full size SUV that will have an EPA rating of over 20 MPG - that exceeds many full size sedans with big bodies/engines or both.

By yearend GM will have a full size SUV that will most likely challenge 25-30 mpg.

Have a competitive market and don't let some bureaucrat make decisions for citizens.

You might just find them emposing a viewpoint you don't like next.

Big government is never the efficient solution, nor the past track record of this great country.

JMHO
