Two weeks ago I stopped at the Rocky Knob, which is a log tavern in the Bitterroot Valley where I had some of my first legal beers. If you recall the holocaust fires of 2000, it was right on the edge of the fire but fortunately escaped. All around this little oasis were the bones of a burned forest.

I ordered a Moose Drool (of course). While musing about the changes that had been made since I had my first beers there in 1965, the man next to me declared that I was too young to be drinking in 1965, so what was I doing in here then? Nope, I was legal, barely.

Anyhow, I struck up a conversation with him. He told me how he sold his house on the Gulf Coast after retiring three years ago, jumped on a bicycle and started riding toward Oregon. When he got to the Bitterroot, he said "This is it." Then he made an offer on a place down the road and it was accepted, after which he continued his bicycle trip to Oregon. Then he returned and stayed in the Bitterroot forever.

His was older than I am (i.e. older than dirt) so that's no excuse, Haq. On the other hand, Montana has only room for two more people. Me and my wife.
