You still make the mistake of comparing your unique situation (size, features, room) etc as if your house is remotely close to national averages.

Home sizes have gone from under 1000 sq ft to close to 3000 sq ft or whatever.

Now you site your house that does not meet that criteria as if it is the average situation. It is not.

Homes are taking a bigger % of income because homes are on average a ton larger with more features than houses of even 10 years ago. Now perhaps that does not account for all of the increase but it accounts for much of it IMO. There will of course always be exceptions.
