I was just thinking about when the Mexican peso devalued, back in the 70s (?). Pesos accounts were paying something like 40% in TJ. So without being fancy at all, you can make a 30+ percent spread against your long term debt. Then again, it may still not be worth much. In reality, if the US economy tanks to that extent, we are going to have a lot more to worry about than a spread.
