It's not even that simple.
When I was in Paris there was a big distinction between the North Africans who had a Greek appearance and those who had a Sephardic appearence. (Maybe that isn't the words they used, but the distinction was very plain). They all spoke Arabic but the reaction to them was like night and day.


Yes, S. Mediterranean is okay....after all, France is considered a Latin country. Its when they get too African looking, not black, but N. African looking.....then there are problems.

When I was there over ten years ago, I said something about the suburbs like Clichy...that they were timebombs waiting to go off.........and the French to whom I was talking said Americans worry too much.
