ThinkProgress is now running this, and Atrios just linked to the ThinkProgress item. Keep pushing and we'll have this in the MSM by this evening. This administration only knows one way to respond to adversity and challenges - increase the lies. Increase the frequency of the lies and the brazenness of the lies. A most startling example can be found in the White House press briefing of Oct. 31. Wonkette has an item on it - wonkette.com . - and a diarist here at Kos referenced it yesterday. I don't understand why it's not getting more attention. Here's the video: whitehouse.gov . And here's the transcript: whitehouse.gov Thomas C's diary :: :: Quite simply, the White House has tampered with the transcript of the Oct. 31 press briefing conducted by l'il Scott McClellan. David Gregory of MSNBC argued to McClellan that notwithstanding McClellan's assurances two years ago that Rove and Libby had not been involved in the leak, both Rove and Libby have admitted to taking part in conversations with journalists regarding Valerie Plame. In response, Scottie said "That's accurate." But the official White House transcript of the briefing available at whitehouse.gov has Scottie saying "I don't think that's accurate." Whoa. A mistake, perhaps? Apparently not. The White House communications office contacted two private concerns that provide transcripts of White House briefings, each of which accurately transcribed Scottie's "that's accurate" response, to urge them to change their transcripts to conform to the White House lie. Both declined. Go see for yourself. Go to whitehouse.gov and click on the "Press Briefings" link. Then check out the Oct. 31 transcript and compare it to the video of the Oct. 31 briefing available on the same webpage. The video confirms that McClellan said "that's accurate" in response to Gregory's assertion that both Rove and Libby have conceded engaging in conversations with journalists regarding Valerie Plame. I find this kind of thing frightening. This is real 1984 type shit. What is particularly frightening is the brazenness of it, their certitude that they can lie to us and no one - at least not any of the MSM dolts who attend the briefings - will call them on it. This is Stalinesque. Is it fear that keeps Gregory and his cohorts from asking "Scottie, what gives with the bogus transcript" or "why is the White House falsifying transcripts of White House press briefings"? If McClellan isn't confronted with this outrage today then it is a testament to the fear that this fascist administration still strikes in the heart of the corporate media.dailykos.com
