One result that was notably not achieved by Prohibition was a reduction in alcohol intoxication. In fact, Prohibition has often been charged with turning the Mafia, previously an organization of two-bit thugs and toughs, into big business. They were heavily involved in smuggling alcohol into th US- -much of it coming across the Great Lakes from Canada.

Don't forget the Kennedys. Their fortune was based on profits from running illegal alcohol.

I don't have a cure for it. Perhaps if you can determine why some countries have such a negligible murder rate?
