We have given out Medals of Honor for that act.

WE give out medals to men who sacrifice themselves to save the lives of their battlefield buddies.

That is NOT even close to what these suicide terrorists are doing when they detonate themselves in crowds of men, women and children non-combatants.
We have never given out anything to reward that despicable act.
Lord help us if start.

They don't think they're sacrificing anything. They think they're going directly to the great Bunny Ranch in the sky.

Blowing yourself up for a cause you believe in is not a cowardly act.

It's a cosmically stupid act.

Sounds like you think suicide is an act of courage.
Taking innocent children with you sort of negates any attribute of bravery, don't you think?

I'm with Bush on this one.

Can't agree with you on that. If a suicide bomber wants to blow him/herself up in the middle of the street, with NO OTHER person around, well then, he/she is just stupid, or brave, depending what you think of suicide.

BUT if a person decides to kill him/herself, AND take as many as possible other people along with him/herself, well then that person is a decided coward, IMO.

If he/she decided to give each of the people he/she wants to kill a weapon similar to the one he/she has, and let them all shoot to kill, while he/she does the same, at least he/she would be a bit braver.

I consider these barbarian murderers, nothing more than barbarian murderers. They are worthless, IMO.

If any of our soldiers did the same thing to any of their innocent civilians, would you think our soldier was brave?

To fight against other men in conflict where painless death is not certain is courage. To fight when others are shooting at you is courage. The act of pushing a button that lead to an instant and painless death is not courage. Compared to the former the latter is cowardice. If one believes in one's cause, that one should not be afraid to attack the armed enemy who will shoot back. Suicide terror against the weakest in society is a tactic of cowards.

I just heard Bush refer to suicide bombers as "cowards."

LB, you don't want to go there. There must be a million posts on SI on the subject of whether suicide bombers are cowards. A million ugly posts. The question is still stuck in a lot of craws.

No we don't, Bill. Blowing yourself up to avoid the dangers of combat would get you court martialed, like shooting yourself for the same purpose. If there were anything to be accomplished by a court martial at that point.

Bill got it right. Intentionally killing unarmed innocents is not an act of bravery- -it is cowardice. A brave man takes on an armed opponent.
