In an echo of the Ralph Nader campaign in 2000, some progressives refuse to unite behind Democratic candidates even to oust the Republican congressional majority, a change that would at least open the potential for investigating Bush’s misdeeds.

Those people who voted for Nader were complete fools; the race against Gore was so close that had their votes not been wasted it would have most likely been decisive, and the country would be a different, better place today as a result.

Other progressives, who e-mail us, insist that balloting is now so thoroughly rigged that engaging in the electoral process is a waste of time. Then, there are liberals who warn that talk of impeachment sounds so radical that it could offend the political center and further marginalize progressive politics.

If the electoral process itself were completely rigged, this latest election would not have ousted so many Republican idiots. While voter fraud clearly goes on, blaming everything on rigged elections is a cop out. For the most part, the Right Wing machine has (through shrewd abuse of freedom of speech and other rights Americans enjoy) just outperformed the more progressive and moderate side of US politics, and the consequences for the country have been disastrous.

I hope the article is right, and that the Chimp is a brick that drags these extremists down. It would be fantastic if he is impeached, but realistically, it will suffice to get rid of the worst of these Republican extremists. That's at least doable.

Is Impeachment The Answer...?
