Beacon Power Third-Quarter Losses Grow Slightly but Sharply Higher Sales Boost Shares

WILMINGTON, Mass. (AP) -- Shares of Beacon Power Corp. went skyward Tuesday after the developer of products and services that keep electricity grids running uninterrupted reported sharply higher third-quarter revenue.

After the close of trading Monday, the company said its losses grew slightly, to $2.1 million from $1.9 million a year ago. Per-share losses were flat at 4 cents per share, as the number of shares outstanding increased to 48.5 million from 43.5 million in the 2004 quarter. The recent quarter includes a $700,000 charge for expenses related to an acquisition proposal.

At the same time, revenue surged to $304.1 million from $80.9 million.

In addition, Beacon -- whose energy storage systems supply uninterrupted electricity for communications networks, computers and manufacturing -- said it raised $15 million in a private sale of its stock to institutional investors. Beacon said it intends to use the proceeds to begin developing a product called the "smart energy 25 flywheel," a component of its "smart energy matrix system" that regulates frequency.

President and Chief Executive Bill Capp called the investment "a vote of confidence."

The company's shares added 22 cents, or 11.6 percent, to $2.11 on the Nasdaq, and earlier traded as much as 8 cents higher. A year ago, the stock traded for as little as 36 cents. Shares spiked to a 52-week high of $5.35 in August.

WorldWater & Power Corp. Signs $1.2 Million Contract to Provide Solar Power for L.A. Baking, Inc.
Thursday November 17, 10:54 am ET

PENNINGTON, N.J., Nov. 17, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- WorldWater & Power Corp. (OTC BB:WWAT.OB - News), developer of proprietary high-powered solar energy systems, today announced that it has signed a $1.2 million contract to build and install a solar electric power generation system for Los Angeles Baking, Inc. a premium baking company located in Los Angeles, California.

L.A. Baking has been providing high quality baked goods to hotels, restaurants, businesses and individuals in the Southern California area for 14 years. The photovoltaic (PV) system will provide electricity for the company's bakery operations, and is expected to substantially reduce operating costs for electrical usage for the facility.

WorldWater & Power Corp. plans to construct a carport over the parking area at the bakery and cafe facility to hold the PV panels that will power the system. Plans call for construction of the carport and installation of the systems to be managed and supervised by Quantum Energy Group, the California engineering, construction and project management firm acquired by WorldWater & Power Corp. earlier this year. The contract is subject to approval of the utility rebate application for the project and securing of financing by the owner, following which construction is expected to begin immediately.
