And example of this in action is the great depression and government and fed responses to it.


That example supports my position.
The government under Hoover tried to stay out of the ecomic boom/bust that wound up as the great depression. It was not until the massive government programs of WWII that the depression ended. Afterwards there were no significant boom/bust cycles until the crash of 1987.
