They didn't? Whose history have you been reading? They knew. They didn't know the extent of the holocaust but they knew it was happening

They didn't and that is also the official explanation why they didn't do anything about it and saved a lot of Jews from still being gassed in Auschwitz during 1944/45.

The very few people who escaped that camp prior to end of the war and reported what was going on, one of them a fairly high profile Hungarian, never could fathom why nobody from the allied side wanted to listen to them and act on that info.

Shameful that may be, the story goes that the Allies had no clue.


I am afraid you are reading history books from the 1950s and 1960s.

Roosevelt knew.....why didn't he do anything for a long time? Because Americans didn't care all that much. This analysis which is common knowledge in the US is as good as any as to what Roosevelt knew and didn't know:
