I'd have to take a close look at the recomposition, but going from memory a whole of tech was dumped in favor of retail(?). If that is correct, I think your suggestion has considerable merit. Adjusted for the number of listings, $COMP only needs about 3500 to "match" the alltime high.

Likely or not, I don't know, but it sure doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility.
