When the U.S. spends physical U.S. Dollars in Iraq, a large percentage will quickly show up in M3 as "Euro Dollar" deposits. When central banks of other nations help monetize our debt, some of this will show up in M3, but it doesn't always. In order for a magician to do his trick, he has to put a handkerchief over M3 so you don't see what he actually does and spoil the "magic". When the Fed discontinues a reporting series, it always precedes activity which wouldn't withstand public scrutiny. That's the essential magic of Monetarism. Bernanke is going to be a disaster. .
