Didn't we read a post here that quoted the British Newspaper, " The Guardian", as claiming there were already skirmishes occurring in Syria close to the border?

The attack in Jordan could be used as the justification.

We'll have to wait and see what happens or doesn't happen.

I don't think we will move on Syria - we are simply over extended and couldn't possibly set up the logistical support. Plus, if you took on the Syrian Army and the fighting is over in one month....then what?...another occupation. Just doesn't make sense to me and I can't believe that the boys in the Pentagon would backing the idea. They went along with being undermanned with low troop levels last time for the invasion and the occupation - they won't make the same mistake twice - I think you will hear more military types speaking out or "leaking out".

Rumors travel like wild fire in the military and they are constantly implementing contingency planning without pulling the trigger on operations - I hope that's the case this time.

I also think the reaction from the moderate republicans and the democratic will be immediate but I'm not sure what thier recourse will be other than witholding funds. They can't just hold their noses and go along with it this time.

If I take out my dead horse and beat it a few more times,.... if I were running the show (truly scary thought) I would only have used special ops people and run a counter insurgent operation in Afganistan, Iraq and Syria right from the beginning if there was consesus to go in in the first place. If you don't train the locals, (tribes and religions) to take on the insurgents, you will never get home - a large military force is not set up for counterinsurgent warfare ...they are large targets. The ops in Afganistan are the closest thing to it. Counterinsurgent operations are ugly because of one thing...you have to play by local rules and that can be horrendous. The majority of activity is done covertly - no press involved until it's over. Also, it is very hard to do successfully - only a small percentage of our military is trained pull it off.

OK, I'll put the soap box away and go rake some leaves (the time during today when I really know what I'm doing).
