Earlier today my wife was watching a TLC program on "home-flipping" - it had a couple of houses people bought, renovated and made available for resale at a profit.

The prices were unbelievable - one was a small mold-covered dump, looked like an abandoned house bums had been living in for years - and the renovator bought it for $540K (if I remember right). Incredible. I would have said they should have just burned the thing down. I sat down to watch the show just to see how they were going to make the place presentable. Well, they did spending $80K to do it - pulled out everything down to the studs and replaced everything, scraped the grounds down to the dirt. And afterward a Century 21 guy said it would be worth $740+.

Those prices floor me.
