That's the whole problem with "preemptive" war. It required a lot of guesswork, and at least in terms of this administration, guesswork isn't optimal.


You can do that if you go into a casino and guess with your own money which way the chips will fall. But you can't do that as President of the United States. You can't gamble with people's lives at stake.

If you decide to gamble, you better be right.

In most civilized societies (and some feudal societies) , if you make a mistake like that, the honorable thing to do would be to fall on your own sword or at a minimum resign.

But, even to admit that you were wrong and then make all kinds of lame excuses is more than just embarrassing.
