As of 9/30/05, we had 37,442 fewer men in uniform than on 9/30/04.

Total DOD uniformed manpower shortage as last reported on 9/30/2005 was 56,206.

WASHINGTON, Nov 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Army, in its first recruiting month since missing its fiscal 2005 goal, topped its target for October, and the Army National Guard beat its goal for the first time in 13 months, officials said on Thursday.

I was pretty sure their new recruiting strategy was going to work. Hey boys we'll sign you up with the Utah units.
