re: Intel is providing its PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface chipset... A recent market research report published by IDATE projects that, by 2010, WiMax will represent a global market of $3.5 billion, representing 4 percent of all broadband usage worldwide.

Frankly, IMHO, the analysts are uncharacteristically underestimating the impact of WiMax. I think it will be totally disruptive... to cable companies, to the RBOC's, to ISPs.

The questions are, 1) will Intel monetize the opportunity, and 2) what company is a relative pure play in WiMax adaption.

It will probably take longer than expected to roll out (it always does) but I would be willing to sit in a flat stock that had an advantage in this marketplace.

PS My concern with Intel is that they seem to want to be a hero in an industry; they will sacrifice profit on the market specific components if they feel they will sell more PC microprocessors. If they could make real money in some other category they could return to growth stock status... right now they are a value play (IMHO).
