The engines looked brand new. parts were worn but not build up of varnish etc. If you changed oil at recommended times and had a good detergent additive in the oil normally you will be alright. In other words the higher priced oils may not pay. If you are going to change oil every year anyway. remember another problem condensation builds up in your oil for the engine. the oil suspends the water. How long do you want to drive with dirt, water building up in oil and filter breaking down. Again if you listen to german car mfg. you can go 15/30,000 miles between changes.. but then they want you to buy another car. Me i want mine to last my lifetime. or at least another twenty years. Not sure i want to buy a life time filter , i do remember technical guys who would back in 70's change filters and put the oil back into their car. lab tests showed the syn oil not losing performance up to 30,000 miles back then. of course ads said change at 6,000 i think. I cannot even tell you if the same additive packages are in oils today as back then. everything has been cut back , however years ago they took pride in the amount of additives put into oil lubricants etc. then some financial analyst came along and said if you cut back just a little you will save big time. so guess what happen. quality is not what it used to be imo.
